FAQ: The Devil's City: Horror Fiction & 5e Gaming Conjoined

Do I need the Novella/RPG to enjoy the RPG/Novella?

Nope. They complement each other very well, and provide different perspectives into the universe we’ve created.

The novella is spoiler-free as it relates to the scenarios in the book and can be handed to your players as additional background into their characters.

For horror fans the RPG book expands the world tremendously, giving you a look behind the scenes that can be enjoyed by all. You’ll also find out what happens after the events of the novella.

What about backers outside of the US?

This Kickstarter has backer tiers for folks all over the world. Electronic only options are available, and for those backing physical rewards there are POD options for folks outside the US.

What is POD?

Print-On-Demand allows the publisher to circumvent the challenges and costs associated with batch printing and get books into your hands much easier for everyone involved. DriveThruRPG and DriveThruFiction have printing facilities throughout the world giving every backer, regardless of their location, the opportunity to purchase the books without paying the exorbitant fees associated with international shipping.

This is the solution that Saturday Morning Scenarios has decided on for all non-US backers of the novella.

All RPG books, regardless of the backer’s location will be POD. I don’t have the resources to ship the RPGs out. The novella is an experiment to asses feasibility of expanding physical books offered in future Kickstarters.

Shipping estimates can be found here: https://support.drivethrurpg.com/hc/en-us/articles/209936893-Estimated-Shipping-Costs-For-Printed-Products

And Printing Estimates can be found here: The novella will be is 6” x 9” and 100 pages and the RPG 8.5” x 10” and ~150-175 pages https://www.drivethrurpg.com/pub_pod_cost.php

What are the differences between the versions of the novella?

The differences between the two versions is literally the paper it’s printed on. The POD will be 70 lb paper versus 100 lb, and that the KS exclusive will be glossier. The content is the same, the covers are the same, and the interiors will both be premium color.

Why can’t I get everything all at once?

Items will be released as they’re available so that backers do not have to wait on the novella or add-ons as the RPG is being finished. Add-on items that have already been published will be released within 2 weeks of funds clearing.

Last updated: March 31, 2020 05:46

Will there be add-ons? If so what will they be?

Yes. Lamp’s Light Sanitarium (PDF and POD) and Invitation Only will be available via Backerkit. Other add-ons may be added as stretch-goals.

Last updated: March 31, 2020 05:46

Why aren’t there more stretch goals?

Simply put I don’t want to overextend myself or my creators with unplanned work. The books, as they are presented, do not rely on stretch goals to bring you the best products possible. They are the first of many products and we want to get you the best product possible and to deliver it on time.

All Rewards Go Out In 2020

Despite reading this a hundred times there are a few typos. ALL rewards will be sent in 2020, not 2021 as a few say. I’m sorry for the confusion!

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
